DEAR Time

When my children were in elementary school, before they were called to the bus at the end of the day, they had DEAR time.  This meant “Drop Everything and Read.”  For twenty minutes, they were allowed to choose a book or magazine and lose themselves in reading.

During my honeymoon with Dan, there were times when we immersed ourselves in reading . . . to each other.  We enjoyed the ‘hobby’ so much that, on a regular basis before we sleep, we DEAR.

Currently, we are reading the first of the wildly popular “Outlander” series by Diana Gabaldon.  The nearly 6,000 pages of adventure should last us several years!  What we love about this ritual is not just the Scottish dialect, the romance or the heroic characters, but that we do it together.

On the heels of Valentine’s Day, I can attest that being in a healthy and fulfilling relationship is truly one of life’s greatest blessings.  We adore our time together.  As we snuggle on the bed eager for the story to unfold, I am aware that it is indeed dear time.
