1. Freeze Frame
This is a shortcut to use when you take your first sip of your favorate beverage.
The purpose of this tool is to help train your mind to focus on moments of simple pleasure. It identifies a happy moment and holds it in your consciousness. It cultivates gratitude as well, a quality directly linked to feelings of peacefulness. Finally, it creates a ‘pause’ which momentarily stops the physical and emotional spiral of the day.
This shortcut is to be used when you’re at a red light. But this exercise is also great whenever you’re in a crowd, such as in an airport, on public transportation, or in a store.
The purpose of this tool is to get you out of your own little sphere. It opens you to the people around you, to their joys and their suffering. It expands your sense of self by linking you to others who wish for happiness and wish to be free from suffering, just like you do. Open your heart with compassion and you will experience a deeper sense of inner peace.
This shortcut is used to relieve tension. It can be used during normal activities such as when driving and when watching television or during times of high stress such as before making a presentation or before discussing grades or other ‘fun’ subjects with your teenager, etc.
The Purpose of this tool is to calm your body and mind. This deep breath exercise has an immediate calming effect on the body. Your mind takes its cues from the body – tight body, tense mind . . . . relaxed body, peaceful mind. This kind of breath expands the lungs which keeps them supple and flexible. And finally, this kind of breathing brings extra oxygen to the brain which just simply makes you feel better.
