I’ve written before about trying to sell my former home in Rye. For months and months I employed the traditional sales methods: open houses, advertisements, and heavy marketing. For months and months I experimented with nontraditional sales methods: rituals, sage smudges, and statue burials. Nothing.
They say that we make plans and God laughs. So finally, after admitting that our plan to sell wasn’t working, we tried another option: we advertised for rent on Craig’s list. Can you guess what happened? Within one hour of listing (on a holiday weekend, mind you), we received ten inquiries!
All I can say is that sometimes, even if we try whole heartedly to move in one direction, the universe may not cooperate. And when we look for an alternative route, a different direction, the stars sometimes align and all the elements fall naturally into place.
Who knows why the drama is playing out in this way. Honestly, I never wanted to become a landlord. But, working with what’s trying to happen rather than forcing an agenda sure does have a peaceful quality to it. I had plans . . . but then life had other plans. So be it.

Fabulous!! I love that you walked all the traditional and non-traditional paths toward selling and then, instead of falling to the floor in despair, you veered in another direction. Congratulations!!

Thanks Ellen! Yes, redirection is definitely better than depression. Sometimes it takes awhile, however, to realize the need to redirect. Better late than never!
